TRAVEL TIPS

Getting to paradise is exceptionally easy.  All roads lead to Kuala Besut, the jettying-off point to the island.  At Kuala Besut, you can get boat tickets to the island from the numerous ticketing agents. Speedboat to the island takes anywhere from 30-40 mins journey.  Return ticket costs RM70 per person.


From Kuala Lumpur:

Bus:  Take overnight bus (journey takes approximately 7 hours) from Hentian Putra bus station to either Kuala Besut or Jerteh.  Direct bus service to Kuala Besut is the most straight forward as the bus will drop you off a few minutes away from the jetty to the island.  From Jerteh, take a taxi to Kuala Besut (15 mins journey). You can also take bus to Kota Bahru and from there, a take a taxi to Kuala Besut (1 hour journey)

Kuala Besut


Train:  From KL Sentral station, take a train either to Wakaf Bharu or Tanah Merah station. From there, a taxi journey to Kuala Besut takes approximately 1 hour. Check out www.ktmb.com.my for schedule and fare options.

 

Fly:  The nearest airport is Kota Bahru (approximately 1 hour journey) to Kuala Besut.  You can choose to fly with Malaysia Airlines (www.malaysiaairlines.com), Air Asia (www.airasia.com) or Firefly (www.fireflyz.com)

 

Last boat to the island is normally around 4:30pm, rarely (except during peak season) boats depart Kuala Besut later than 5:30pm.  If you happen to miss the last boat, the best option is to spend the night in Kuala Besut (this way, you can catch the first boat to the island at 7am). Another option is to stay in Jerteh or Kota Bahru.

Budget airline Firefly (www.fireflyz.com.my) now flies from Penang to Kota Bharu airport is also an attractive option.

 

From Singapore:

Most popular option is to take the overnight bus from Lavender Station to Jerteh.  The journey takes approximately 10 hours.  Other options if Jerteh bound bus is full, Kota Bahru or Kuala Terengganu bound is also possible. Overnight train (www.ktmb.com.my) is also an option, however, the journey is pretty long.  On the plus side, you will be better rested as the train is comfortable and you will have a bunk to sleep in  

Another option for those not keen for long bus or train ride, consider taking the many budget airlines now offer cheap flights to Kuala Lumpur. Check out Air Asia (www.airasia.com), Jetstar (www.jetstar.com), Tiger Airways (www.tigerairways.com) for schedule and fare options.  From there, take domestic flight to Kota Bahru via Air Asia or Malaysia Airlines.  

 

From Thailand:

Most visitors will either cross the border at Sungai Kolok to Rantau Panjang or via Hatyai to Penang.  From Sungai Kolok, there are many taxis that can take you to Kuala Besut.
